WHAT DO NEIGHBORS DO?
Our volunteer Neighbors are trained to bring monthly meals or grocery deliveries (and an encouraging smile) to isolated families who need friendly support. We provide guidance in the match for the first 6 months, and then you are free to continue the friendship as much or as little as you’d like.
WHO CAN REQUEST A NEIGHBOR?
Has your family been impacted by Child Welfare? Is your family facing a season of hardship or loss? These experiences easily leave any family feeling isolated or overwhelmed. That’s where our Neighbors come in! Any family impacted by Child Welfare or facing a hard season can apply for support from a volunteer Neighbor through our program.
WHERE ARE MATCHES MADE?
We are currently focusing on the Metro Detroit Area, including Wayne County, Oakland County and
Macomb County. Typically, we try to match families with a Neighbor within fifteen miles. In some
instances though, it may be farther away. Also, as long as there is a Neighbor signed up in your area,
we are able to match Families across the state of Michigan.
Outside of Michigan? Contact us to see if there is a Neighbors chapter established near you.
WHAT CAN I EXPECT?
The Neighbors Project connects Neighbors who care with Families who need support. Here’s how the program works:
1. After applying to request a Neighbor and completing a short training, we will match you with a Neighbor in your area who has cleared a background check and completed their own training.
2. Once you’ve been matched, we will help introduce you to the family you will be building a relationship with.
3. During your match, we will provide support for six months to you and your Neighbor to help everyone feel comfortable.
4. After six months, you will graduate from our Neighbors program! We encourage you to continue your friendship with a Neighbor as much as you feel comfortable.
NEXT STEPS TO REQUEST A NEIGHBOR

Fill Out a Family Application
Complete the application letting us know that your family would benefit from the support of a Neighbor. This application helps us understand your family’s situation, food preferences, and support needed so we can match you with the best Neighbor for your family.

Complete a Short Online Training
Once we’ve received your application we will email you a link and password to access our short self-paced training online. You can complete it whenever it is most convenient for you, although within a week of applying is ideal.

Wait For Your Match to Begin
As soon as we have an appropriate Neighbor for your family (location, availability, etc) we will contact you to begin your match and make the introduction!
